Stockings are fascinating things. Admired, sometimes obsessively[0], by many men, yet (in many ways) considerably better than tights[1] for wearing. More convenient when visiting the toilet, and healthier too because some parts don’t need to be stifled and overheated – ask any Scots kilt wearer.
What amazes me, personally, is that I know a significant number of women taller than I am (an averageish 173cm/5’8″), many of whom have well-muscled legs, yet I really struggle to find stockings large enough – mostly in terms of the length, so they are always pulling themselves downwards.

Hold-ups are my personal preference cf the “classic” stockings & suspenders combination. And here is where insufficient lenght really bites – they just won’t stay high enough. Not even my favourite purple fishnet 5XL hold-ups. Yes, XL, Extra Large. Too small. What do all the women taller than myself do?!
Pro Tip: if one is wearing reasonably high boots (knee length or thereabouts), then (perhaps surprisingly) cutting off the very end of the bottom part of the stocking (just a couple of cm) removes the problem nicely.
Instead of slicing itself open gradually as it is ground against your toenails, or the forces cutting off the blood supply to your toes, it can slip harmlessly part way along your foot. The reduction in downwards force against the top part of the hold-up then enables them to stay up much more reliably. Looks like a need them about 10cm longer than the 5XL length 😲

[1] Tights being what people on the other side of the Big Pond call “pantyhose”, a term which I simply cannot take seriously and which always makes me giggle likes Mrs Slocombe’s constant references to her pussy[2].
[2] I’m not going to explain this if you don’t already know. But you can read about it here!
